Playing Around in Homer, Alaska

Jerry was intent on finding rock to polish.

Charlotte thought this huge seaweed was so cool. I'm actually surprised she picked it up since it was kind of gelatanous, but she used it to chase the other kids with.

Jerry jr. skipping rocks. The kids loved being 'allowed' to throw rocks.

Everone got to touch the ocean in the Gulf of Alaska. It was pretty cold, but the color was amazing, so blue and clear.

Welcome, Baby Ashley

Ashley Quinten James Harris was born while we were on our girl's week trip. He is so sweet. Congratulations, Tiffany, Jerome, and Peyton.

Girl's Week Out

My sister, Heather, and I spent a kid free week in Las Vegas. Here are our 'glamour' shots.
Heather on her horse Goliath. We really enjoyed our ride (it was my first), but I was sore for three days afterward.

The fountain in the lobby of the Palazzo, probably the most beautiful of the hotels we saw.

Scout Camp Three Years Running

Levi and Jerry III had a great time at camp this year. I was one of the den leaders for Levi's den so I missed out on pictures of Jerry in action. They both earned shooting award for BB guns and archery.

Fun in the Sun

Jeneva and Georgiana loved playing in the sand even though their sand toys wouldn't turn out shapes.

Jerry jr. was braving the cold surf to take the older kids in. Some were reluctant at first, but once they learned how to jump with the waves they loved it.

Burying each other in the sand was another hit. Levi got a little clausterphobic when he was buried, but the rest thought it was great fun.

Don't get sand in Charlotte's eyes!

First Family Hike

This was the families first attempt at hiking. The kids did amazingly well which was surprising, because the trail was two mile up a mountain and two miles back. They were all excited to have their own camelbacks and could take a drink whenever they wanted. The only problem was no bathrooms until the top. I think I was wiped out the most.

Remembering Richard James Gifford

My dad passed away May 31, 2011 and we will miss him. I look forward to the day when we can meet again and our understanding will be better and we can share the joy of the gospel with each other.

Jerry III: The Working Man

It's hard to believe that Jerry is old enough to be mowing the lawn, but today dad took him out to teach him the fine art of lawnkeeping. He really wants to start earning money;)

Fishing Firsts

At a family meeting we decided that learning to fish was something that we wanted to do this year so we finally got out for our first attempt. As expected the little girls became bored and their favorite part seemed to be eating and drinking in their camp chairs. The boys lasted longer especially with the incentive of earning a fishing belt loop.
I think we had a good first day even though we didn't get any bites. We all have to learn how to bait for the fish in the lake and be patient. The kids just didn't expect patience to take so long.

Artwork

This is Levi's collage. After seeing Charlotte do one, he had to as well.

Making Necklaces

The girls were feeling left out that the kids always get to do art projects for school so we decided to make necklaces.
I was surprised how methodical they both were as they patiently strung the yarn.
The end result was beautiful and they want bracelets to match.

More Scouts

I know it seems that all we do is scouting stuff, but since we have pack meetings every month and the boys are always getting more awards there will be a large amount of these posts.

Levi has decided that he wants to earn more awards than Jerry has so this month was the first meeting where the competition has gone public. They both earned so many that the leaders had to tell everyone about the challenge.
One of the things I love about pack meetings is that they include the whole family. The girls love coming and playing games and doing just a little bit of what the boys are doing.
This is Levi's first time participating in the flag ceremony. He knew exactly what he was doing and had no problem directing his partner.

Jerry's Artwork

This is a drawn version of a cross-stitch sampler. Jerry's favorite subject is art and can usually be found doing different projects.

This is a gate in front of a federal building from Jerry's lesson on Federal architecture.

This is one of my favorites. Jerry calls it "Levi in a Tuxedo" and he is holding his two favorite things: pizza and video game controller.

Still life done in oil pastels.

No More Broken Crayons

Thanks to an idea we saw on Brandy's blog we were able to clear out the broken crayons from our tub. It has now become a treasure hunt on who can find the most crayon pieces throughout the house.
